The British Government today affirmed its strong commitment to the investigation on Sri Lanka by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

British Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth office, Hugo Swire, said this after he met a group of Tamil diaspora groups in London today.

The UK based Global Tamil Forum (GTF) together with some other Tamil groups met Swire today to discuss the human rights situation in Sri Lanka.

This is not the first time that the British Government has had talks with the GTF, a very influential Tamil organisation led by Father S. J. Emmanuel.

In a news report yesterday the GTF had expressed backing for an undivided Sri Lanka while seeking lasting peace based on justice, reconciliation and a negotiated political settlement.

The GTF said it is committed to non-violence and together with the Tamil National Alliance  (TNA), will work towards Tamil interests.
