Tuesday, June 9, 2015

The Global Tamil Forum (GTF) and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) met in London last weekend in the presence of the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, to discuss issues faced by Tamils in war-ravaged Sri Lanka.

A joint press release issued by S.Surendiran of the GTF and M.A.Sumanthiran of the TNA, said on Monday that the GTF and TNA discussed ways in which the Tamil Diaspora’s “exceptional capacities and capabilities” could be employed in developing the war-torn Tamil areas of the island nation.

“It was agreed that a further meeting will be called to present the requirements to various High Commissioners and Ambassadors based in Sri Lanka, with the aim to raise funds for housing of over two thousand families in these newly released lands in the Northern Province,” the release said.

The release of prisoners held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in the light of a review by the Ministry of Justice, and lifting the ban on Diaspora organizations and individuals were also discussed.
