Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith P. Perera told a weekend newspaper the new government hopes to maintain the ban imposed on the organisations that were alleged to have links with the LTTE.

When inquired if the new government would consider lifting the ban, he added that there had not been any discussion or consideration by the new government about lifting the ban.

During the previous regime the LTTE and 15 Tamil Diaspora groups including the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), Global Tamil Forum (GTF) and British Tamil Forum (BTF) were banned in Sri Lanka.
