GTF activists will be looked at: Ruwan Wijewardene

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

The activities of the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) -- one of the diaspora organizations de-proscribed recently -- will be looked into, State Minister for Defense, Ruwan Wijewardene said today.

He said this in response to a question asked by opposition MP Dullas Alhapperuma in Parliament last morning.

Mr. Alhapperuma said the GTF still showed the Eelam map on its website. He said de-proscription was welcomed if the organizations which are de-proscribed had given up separatism, but the government should be alert if these organizations continued to hold such views.

The state minister said de-proscription was done after a careful study by foreign and local intelligence organizations.

House Leader Lakshman Kiriella said the present government would not paste the terrorist label on every organization.
