Ban On Diaspora Will Remain

Sunday, February 1, 2015

The new government will maintain the status quo of the previous government with reference to the ban imposed on the several Tamil Diaspora groups for their alleged involvement with the terror organisation and in reviving terrorism in the country.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith P. Perera said that the new government hope to maintain the status quo on the ban imposed on the organisations that were alleged to have links with the terrorist organisation.

When inquired if the new government would consider lifting the ban, he added that there had not been any discussion or consideration in the new government about lifting the ban.

During the previous regime the LTTE and 15 Tamil Diaspora groups including the Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE), Global Tamil Forum (GTF) and British Tamil Forum (BTF) were banned in Sri Lanka for allegedly trying to revive terrorism.
